This summer I had a weeks work experience at Your Local Link, a monthly paper based in York. The people working there were fantastic and really encouraging.
Although I spent a few hours in their Sales department, I spent most of my time in the Editorial Office writing up news stories in the ‘Local Link tone’ (chatty, amusing, plenty of puns), writing advertisement copy and helping out with the various sections.
I can’t yet put up the pieces I wrote for the next issue as it hasn’t yet gone to print, but here’s the link to ‘Home Sweet Home’, a one-off personal column I was asked to write. The topic could have been anything but, as a York resident now living in the South, I chose a topic which would appeal to our target audience: the things I miss about Yorkshire.
The tone is a blend of my usual and then various elements of the ‘Local Link tone’, again aiming appeal to the target audience.
